Silver and Gold Magazine

In the next issue of Silver and Gold magazine which will be available on March 1st. Free of Charge, I will have written my very first column for them. My column will appear in each issue and they come out 4 times each year.

I am also pleased to report that I will also be on their Website under Seniors Moments so please be sure to check there for the latest in memories of the Good Old Days of Burlington.

Special thanks to my granddaughter, Alannah for helping me write this blog post!

Some More Early Memories

This was submitted by Joan Williams:
“A few memories from our time in Burlington:
  • The Estaminet restaurant, owned by Midge and Brian Cooper. Rotary Club meetings held there, Jane Mansfield’s visit with a photo op for Joe, he still has the picture. The opening of the Tree Top Bar- it was THE place to be!!
  • Saint Patrick’s Day. The water in the town hall pool was turned green for the day!
  • Cedar Springs Ski Hill, where countless skiers got there first taste of the sport. More than one enthusiastic skier spent their lunch hour sliding down the slopes.
  • Burlington Synchro Swim Club. I coached the group and believe is still going to-day.
My husband, Joe, is now in a nursing home with Parkinson’s disease so I am just touching on a memory or two.

Hope this helps. I am 85 now and still teaching skiing at Blue Mountain.”
Cheers.

Welcome to the Senior’s Moments Blog

My younger, handsomer self

Welcome to my blog. Some of you may remember me from my newspaper columns, which first appeared in the Hamilton Spectator (when they had a Burlington section; a number of years ago), and then for the past 10+ years with the Burlington Post.

It is my intention to carry on that work here and would, as usual, welcome your input. Any memories you may have of growing up in Burlington, Ontario, Canada (including photos!- we can do that, now), anytime after the Second World War (or before, if your memory extends to those days!) we’d love to see and hear.

Please use the “Contact” link above to join the discussion on anything you may read here, or to contribute your own stories.
